Winter is Coming
I am sure you are all starting to feel the air temperature drop! Getting out of bed in the morning is just that tiny bit harder as the chill in the air increases. The sun is rising later and setting earlier. All these signs only point to one thing… winter is coming. While that means it is almost time to start pulling out the winter wardrobes from up the top of the cupboard and switching out the heels for boots, what does winter mean for your brows and lashes?
In winter the cold outdoor air and artificial heating when you are indoors really drains the moisture from your hair follicles. You will notice your skin feels dryer and maybe not as obvious to you, your hair everywhere is experiencing the same thing. With the loss of moisture, hair becomes more brittle and can be more prone to breaking and excess hair fall. This applies to brows and lashes also.
During winter it is extremely important to give a little extra care to your brows and lashes to avoid any unnecessary damage and keep them looking fresh and vibrant. A few things you can do to support your brows and lashes during this dry and cold time is to look for beauty products that do not interfere with or block normal follicular function. Cream based brow products are normally more hydrating than powder options and there are hydrating mascaras that can help to keep your lashes from drying out. You should also be religiously sticking to your after care and cleaning routines for your brows and lashes during this time as it will have a big impact on overall follicle health and retention.
While we are on the topic of health, another cause of lash and brow breakage and fall can be stress! Our bodies tend to feel more stress during the colder months, simply because being cold is a stress on our system. This additional stress impacts your lashes and brows as it can interfere with your hairs growth and resting phases, meaning you are not replacing hairs as quickly as they are falling. You should aim to find ways you can manage your own stress levels be it meditation, hanging with friends or getting your heart rate up with a good workout.
Speaking of exercise, sweat production is another great way to release toxins that are held in the follicles, promoting healthier follicles and more growth. So, by exercising you will not only take care of the stress impacts on your brows and lashes, but also boost your follicle health in general, so two birds with one stone.
Winter might be on its way, but if we are prepared for it, we can navigate our way through and still have drop dead gorgeous lashes and brows! You may need to book your appointments a little close together and you do need to follow the aftercare instructions but we will get through this.
Also, don’t forget, we spend a fair bit of time rugged up watching Netflix during winter, so naturally our skin loses that summer glow but it doesn’t have to be that way… keep your vibrant glow all winter long with our Belle Bronze tans. Highlight Beauty will make sure your lashes, brows and skin are simply fabulous all year round!
